KMT wins in an abosalute landslide. its by far the biggest landslide victory in well over a decade.

not too surprising. system is in their favor to begin with, and the people are just abosalutely pissed with Chen anyway.

why you blame ah-bian
the area of responsibility for DPP leaders saw ah-bian tainan area win 5 out of 5 seats. HaHa!
the single member district format in most countries meant legislators virtually ruled their district like feudal lords. every election is a vote of confidence for the incumbent, the challenger will find it harder than ever. the incumbent is very hard to be kicked out in this format.

I'm sure that was a sarcastic remark, seeing that the DPP losing in Tai-Nan is as unfathomable as the KMT losing in TaoYuan and Taipei city.

The DPP's tenure have been crap. it's pretty obvious. most of their achievements are carry over policy / constructions from the KMT days, and whatever they did achieve, they done a horrible job at self promotion. instead just keep on focusing on personal attack on the past or current KMT people. that's simply not how a ruling party is suppose to work.

Yeah the new policy is icky. but the DPPs pushed hard to this change to begin with so they really just have themself to blame for bringing in a policy that kills them.

this is the first time "single member district" format is used in the elections and this election was won by the KMT mainly on a vote of no confidence against the DPP govt.
a few more elections later and the true division of electoral power will start to develop and really take shape. District legislators will be more powerful than ever.

I certainly agree with that. though on the bright side most of the nutty candidates and hawkish parties (on either spectrums) have been virtually annihilated.

The DPP is in part to blame because they agreed with the voting method. Why? Because they wanted the ability to get a majority of seats without winning a majority of votes. They got greedy, and it went the KMT's way instead of their's.

KMT and DPP ganged up to push the "single member district" format to annihilate the smaller parties.
I don't see much difference between the district and party votes distribution. Taking DPP to be at 40% support for both votes, KMT got 80% of district seats with 55-60% of popular votes. DPP got 16% of district seats with 35-40% votes. That's how the game play.

Exactly, the DPP gambled it could win big, and it lost instead.

If it had been really interested in democracy it would have pushed for the system where the "at large seats" are used to top-up parties that didn't win many seats but had a lot more support across the board.

Yes, that was one-half the problem -- and then the gerrymandered districts were the other half of the problem.

Michael, they weren't gerrymandered. Unequal, maybe - but gerrymandering is a deliberate process. The DPP and CEC pretty much agreed on the districts - only a few were decided by ballot and the Pan-Blues didn't get their way all the time.

What happened to the link to the CEC results page that was here? I can't find the page on their site either. Did they take it down the day after the election???

Don't know about the CEC results page, but my latest post has a link to a Taipei Times results page. The CEC is probably putting together a more comprehensive results page at this point.

Didn't you have a link to the CEC page up?
The Taipei Times map is good, but the CEC had the whole election broken down (votes, percent female, by party, etc)

I found the link. It's here for anyone interested:
